Painter Guido Severien has an huge passion for people and the human body. His works are figuratively realistic but always carry an emotional charge. In his work, he searches for the layer just beneath the skin's surface; the vulnerability, the drama, the mysticism, the power, the beauty, the sensuality. Sometimes this surfaces powerfully, but more often it's more hidden, as if the image becomes transparent and the emotional underlayer becomes visible.

"As a dancer and choreographer, I transformed my passion for the body into form and movement. This passion remains, but my media now are pencil, pastel, and paint. During my battle with cancer, I faced death. Only then I truly understood what 'life' means and I realized: without a body, there is no life. For me, the human body is like a miracle in which I search for the mystery of life, or what I call 'the breath' of existence. I want to capture that 'breath' in my work; perhaps small and subtle, but always the driving force of my inspiration."
